Course Description

Rated one of the toughest tracks in the country, this spectacular course is laid out within a residential estate in the mountains of Benahavís, between Marbella and Estepona on the Costa del Sol and it opened for play in 1989.

Attracting golfers who like their sport to be a little more challenging than that found down along the coastline, Monte Mayor is a fantastic golfing experience where elevation changes are the order of the day as the routing winds past rocky outcrops, crosses deep gorges, climbs hillsides, plunges down ravines and traverses streams. Off the fairway is considered under local rule as lateral water hazard so no stroke and distance penalty – again, a very sensible measure.

Many visitors return, year after year, in a frantic effort to tame the course. Few ever do, but still they remain drawn to the great golfing challenge amongst the lush vegetation in the Spanish mountains. Bring plenty of balls if you decide to play here – along with a camera – and don't worry about playing to handicap as it's all about having fun at Monte Mayor.
